Millfield Musician of the Year is for all abilities, ages and instruments. The competition is split up into four categories: Wind, Brass and Percussion, Vocal, Strings and Piano.

Multi instrumentalists are welcome to apply more than once, but they are not allowed to enter the same category twice.

The deadline for applications is Saturday 13th January. Applicants must send a scan of their piece to music@millfieldschool.com by this date, whether or not they require accompaniment. If applicants do not submit their music on time, they may be withdrawn from the competition

Wind, Brass and Percussion

Heats will take place on Monday 22nd January, finals will take place on Monday 29th January

Sub Category Details:

Ins. 1 – Grade 1 to 4 (3 Minute Time Limit)
– Only category winners for Grades 1 – 4, decided on each day.
– Category winners receive their prizes during the final on Monday 29th January.

Ins. 2 – Grade 5 to 6 (4 minutes)
– One winner from each of the Grade 5 to 6 categories will go through to perform in the final on Monday 29th January to compete for Millfield Instrumentalist of the Year: Intermediate

Ins. 3 – Grade 7+ (8 minutes)
– One winner from each of the Grade 5 to 6 categories will go through to perform in the final on Monday 29th January to compete for Millfield Instrumentalist of the Year: Advanced

Vocal

Heats will take place on Tuesday 23rd January, finals will take place on Monday 29th January.

Sub Category Details:

Pupils are only allowed to participate in one vocal category, with a 5 min. time limit for a piece.

Each sub category will be split into a Junior (Y9 & Y10) and a Senior (Y11 & Sixth Form) class.

One winner from each class of the sub categories will progress to Monday’s final where each of the category winners compete for:
Millfield Vocalist of the Year: Junior (Y9 & Y10)
Millfield Vocalist of the Year: Senior (Y11 & Sixth Form)

Voc.1 – Musical Theatre & Jazz
Voc.2 – Classical
Voc. 3 – Contemporary

Strings

Heats will take place on Thursday 25th January, finals will take place on Monday 29th January
