It gives me great pleasure to invite you to our 2017-18 International Concert Series which welcomes the world’s finest musical ensembles to our stunning Johnson Hall.

To open the season, the internationally-acclaimed BBC Big Band will be joined by multi-award winning vocalist and BBC Radio 3 presenter, Claire Martin, for what will be a very special concert celebrating the legendary leading ladies of Big Band. Widely regarded as one of the world’s finest jazz orchestras, BBC Big Band continues to delight audiences worldwide through their BBC radio broadcasts and live performances.

In the spring term, we welcome an ensemble regarded by many as Britain’s leading piano trio. Celebrating their 25th anniversary as an ensemble, the Gould Piano Trio is at the forefront of international chamber music. They mark their anniversary with a new commission from composer and clarinetist Mark Simpson, who also joins them for a performance of Messiaen’s masterpiece, ‘Quartet for the End of Time’.

Our Summer recital features the brilliant Tenebrae. Described as ‘phenomenal’ (The Times) and ‘devastatingly beautiful’ (Gramophone Magazine), award-winning choir Tenebrae is one of the world’s leading vocal ensembles renowned for its passion and precision. Tenebrae’s programme will commemorate the centenary of the end of World War I and will feature Parry’s magnificent ‘Songs of Farewell’.

I hope you will join us for this incredibly exciting season of ensemble music – tickets are available for each concert, or a subscription can be purchased for all three. Whichever you choose, you can be sure of a truly brilliant evening of the highest quality music making.
