Johnson Sessions – November 24th

On the evening of Saturday 24th November, the Music School of Millfield welcomed a huge crowd to the Johnson Hall for the first of the academic year’s Johnson Sessions. With acts performing immortal songs by: Billy Joel to The Eagles and even new and exciting material written by the students themselves; this event was sure to have a song for everyone to sing along to!

Kicking off our evening in style were: The Croziers featuring Connor Collins, Luca Lattanzi, Jobim Ffrench, Tom Bradley, Natsag Bayar and Caity Collins performing Fell in Love with a Boy and an infectiously groovy rendition of New Shoes. Oska Zaky, a Johnson’s veteran, provided the audience with a choice of two of his own songs – they chose the endearingly catchy Skin and Bones, which Oska performed with a positively professional stage presence. One of the highlights of the second half was a back-to-back Billy Joel segment, featuring a stirringly upbeat Rowan Wilson and Harvey Morland performing Piano man, and a sublimely lyrical performance of She’s Always A Woman by Seb Berkeley. To top things off, a seasoned ensemble of Johnson Sessions performers Woody Taylor, Will Renwick, Kim Hughes & Harvey Morland treated the audience to one of their own tracks Scarlet Star, inspired by Pink Floyd, performed with flair that sent everyone home in high spirits.

The Johnson Sessions are always a hit, and this event was no different. Top-notch compering from Mr Jon Boyle, coupled with fantastically chosen and expertly performed songs from the students created an unforgettable evening of popular music.
