Evening Recital 08/03 – The Review

After a week disrupted by the extreme weather conditions, Millfield Music School returned immediately into action with our termly Evening Recital. This concert was a fantastic showcase of many of our more experienced performers, tackling complex and challenging works in the magnificent setting of our very own Johnson Hall.

The concert was notable in the brilliant performances by many new faces, playing in their debut recitals. Year 9 Hamish opened the concert brilliantly with a stylish performance of Bach on cello, whilst fellow Year 9’s Patience and Joanna performed piano works by Mozart and Turina respectively with style and panache.

There was a fabulous variety of performances and styles present in this concert; vocally, Elenice, Rowan and Bethan sang works from musicals with great character and excitement, whilst Izzy and Florence wowed with exceptional technique and musicality in their classical songs.

The evening showcased some of the excellent instrumentalists present at the school. Cecily played an Intermezzo by Brahms with real lyricism, Steven performed a work by Grieg with a deft touch and Oliver demonstrated fantastic technique and musicality with a challenging work for marimba.

The two halves of the recital closed with two excellent violin performances. Annabella impressed with a Theme and Variations work by Messiaen, whilst Izzy finished the concert with a brilliant performance of ‘Aus Der Heimat’ by Smetana; a difficult work pulled off with real class.

As the audience left the Johnson Hall at the end of the recital, there were smiles all round, with many commenting on the fantastic diversity of talent currently at Millfield Music School.

Many of our performers in this recital will be singing in the next performance in the music calendar; the grand Choral Concert in Wells Cathedral on Tuesday 13th March. There are only a few tickets remaining, so make sure you email channon.a@millfieldschool.com now to reserve yours today and avoid disappointment!

We hope to see many of you there!
