As the final instalment of the series this year, the Johnson Sessions had a lot to live up to after two incredible shows earlier this year. The summer sessions, however, did not disappoint. Featuring old faces and new names, the breadth of material stretched from Eric Clapton to original student-written material. Stand-out performances came from leavers Susanna Khalkecheva, Lebo Montshiwa, and Roa Al Shidi, while the younger performers gave the audience a taste of just how good they could be as they continue to improve in the future. The Sessions doubled up as an opportunity to hear and thank this year’s leavers, and to pay tribute to Ben Kench, an inspirational teacher and musician who sadly passed away earlier this year. Mr Boyle led two tributes to Ben to close the concert: the songs befitted Ben’s talent and passion for music, and were a wonderful way to finish another superb concert.
