Summer has arrived: welcome back to another full term of music at Millfield. While our students are naturally prioritising those all-important exams, the music programme here is continuing in spectacular style.
The first big night on the agenda is our second ‘Music at Millfield’ on 5th May, the last time this academic year for you to see our biggest school ensembles pulling out all the stops to deliver high quality performances. Not long afterwards on 9th May, is our final guest in the International Concert Series, piano’s rising star, Joseph Moog. After what promises to be an amazing concert, Joseph will be back for masterclasses the next day with some very lucky pupils.
Just before half term, the Leavers’ Recital gives us the opportunity to say goodbye to some of the brightest talent in the Music department, as our Upper Sixth students move on to university or employment after this term. And to finish off the school year, Music for a Summer’s Evening, a new entry in the concert calendar, is a final opportunity for groups of any size to perform, in a relaxed celebration of this year’s musical achievements.
In amongst all these special events, our student recitals will continue, both formal and informal, including the ever-popular Johnson Sessions. ABRSM and Trinity exams will be looming towards the end of term, and external exams will of course be high on the priority list. Year 9 will be changing their Co-Curricular activity once again this term, so we are excited to be welcoming a new contingent of students into Music. All in all, there are lots of exciting opportunities, lots of hard work ahead, and lots to look forward to!
