The second Evening Recital of the year saw the widest variety of repertoire yet, ranging from the 1700s to the present day, as well as composers from outside of the traditional European choices. Both halves of the concert began with challenging works for electric guitar, which demonstrated the growing interest and talent in contemporary compositions among students. Voice was a popular instrument again, with students showcasing works from musical theatre, opera, and jazz. However, the highlight for many was the final item, a movement from the Double Violin Concert by J. S. Bach, seeing two students take the lead roles, accompanied by a string quartet. The performance captured the spirit of the Baroque musical style and playing conventions, and provided a fitting end to a fantastic displaying of Millfield’s musical talent in a range of genres.
