It was a night for students to show off their hard work in rehearsals for chamber music, with a whole concert dedicated to an up and coming genre at Millfield. We were treated to music that spanned from the 1600s to the twentieth century and repertoire that showed off particular instruments to their best. It was particularly pleasing to see that the less common chamber ensembles of an oboe trio, cello trio and clarinet quartet were represented. Bookending the smaller ensembles were Percussion Ensemble and Brass Ensemble, who built on their great performances from ‘Music at Millfield’ in December with more splendid playing. Based on the performances heard in this concert, chamber music has an exciting and promising future ahead, with talent across the school years and instruments.
