Millfield was graced by the presence of violin royalty in the form of Jennifer Pike, the youngest ever winner of BBC Young Musician of the Year and internationally acclaimed virtuoso. Often seen performing concertos, Pike turned to chamber music for her visit to Millfield. Her varied programme spanned from Mozart to Szymanowski and included crowd favourite The Lark Ascending by Vaughan Williams. For many though, the highlight was the Variations on a Hungarian Peasant Song by film composer Miklos Rozsa, in which Pike held the audience spellbound with variation after variation of increasingly complicated techniques and playing styles, such as artificial harmonics and triple-stopping. We have been very fortunate indeed to host Jennifer, who is so in demand as a performer, and her concert was an incredible opportunity for our students to see an artist of such calibre.
