What’s in store for February…

After a great start to the new calendar year, we have a lot to look forward to in February.

The month begins with a Candlemas service in Wells Cathedral, a beautiful service of choral music and candlelight, all in such a stunning setting. Alongside the Carol Concert, this is one of the highlights of the religious calendar at Millfield.

Following this, from 4th to 8th is the grand production of High School Musical, a collaboration between the Music, Dance, and Drama departments. Students have been working on this show since September and have tackled the challenging material with great enthusiasm. The matinee performance on 4th is reserved for students, staff, and parents, but all are welcome to the evening performances on the 6th, 7th, and 8th.

After half term, we will be treated to a visit by renowned violin virtuoso, Jennifer Pike, who is doing a recital on the evening of the 23rd, as well as taking masterclasses for our students during the day. This is such an exciting opportunity for our students, and for our audience community, as artists of such calibre don’t visit the south-west of England very often. Having had a sneak peek at the programme, we can confirm some crowd favourites (like The Lark Ascending) and some more unconventional repertoire.

To cap off a fantastic month, our students take the spotlight again with an Evening of Chamber Music, held on the 27th. The students have been working since September on a range of chamber repertoire and ensemble performances that will be showcased in this special concert. This evening is also special because it gives students of all abilities to perform chamber music, unlike the Evening Recital concerts, which are aimed at the best performers in the department.

We really hope that you can join us for at least one of these brilliant events, and watch this space for an exciting March too!
